Following his emergence as the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) senatorial candidate for Abia North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election, Rt. Hon. Uko Ndukwe Nkole, FNITP, PhD, has reaffirmed his commitment to running an issue-based campaign, insisting that his record of service and legislative accomplishments will remain the cornerstone of his engagement with the electorate.
The former two-term member of the House of Representatives said his campaign would focus on practical solutions to the developmental needs of Abia North rather than political distractions or personal attacks.
According to Nkole, the people of Abia North deserve a campaign driven by ideas, competence, measurable performance, and a clear vision for sustainable development.
He maintained that his eight years in the National Assembly produced numerous federal projects across the district, many of which, according to him, have either been abandoned over the past three to four years due to the absence of sustained federal legislative engagement or have since been taken over by the Abia State Government.
Nkole argued that the situation highlights the importance of experienced representation capable of attracting federal attention, ensuring project continuity, and following through on implementation until completion.
Among the projects he said were facilitated during his tenure are the reticulation and water supply component of the rehabilitated Ohafia Water Scheme at Akanu-Ohafia; the Ohafia–Arochukwu Highway (Section I); the Ohafia–Ozu Abam–Bende–Umuahia (F107) Road (Section II); the Arochukwu–Ututu–Isu–Ikot Okpora Road; the Arochukwu–Itu Road; the Okagwo Agborji Abiriba–Okagwe Ohafia Road; the Okagwe–Edda–Afikpo Road; the Abiriba–Nkporo–Oso Edda–Afikpo Road; and the May Ten Elu Ohafia–Amuke–Amangwu–Biakpan Road.
According to him, the prolonged delays in the execution of these strategic federal infrastructure projects have negatively affected economic activities and rural development across several communities in Abia North.
Nkole assured constituents that, if elected to the Senate in 2027, he would build on his previous legislative achievements by attracting additional federal projects, strengthening youth and women empowerment programmes, expanding access to education, and pursuing policies aimed at improving the welfare and economic fortunes of the people.
He urged the electorate to focus on competence, proven capacity, and effective representation as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the people of Abia North would make their decision based on performance and credibility rather than rhetoric.
