The apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide,heartily congratulates His Excellency, Senator David Nweze Umahi, the Honourable Minister of Works, on the occasion of his 63rd birthday anniversary celebration holding on Saturday, 25th July 2026.
On this remarkable occasion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide celebrates Senator Umahi as a distinguished public servant, an accomplished administrator, and a trailblazer whose tenure at the Federal Ministry of Works has, in the view of the organization, introduced a new dimension to infrastructure development and public service delivery in Nigeria.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo particularly commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Senator Umahi as the first person of Igbo extraction to serve as Minister of Works since the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Works in 1951. According to the organization, this historic appointment represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s political history and a recognition of the capacity, competence, and experience of Ndigbo in national development.
The organization notes that Senator Umahi’s transition from state governance to the Federal Ministry of Works has positioned him as one of the prominent figures driving the administration’s infrastructure agenda. His advocacy for innovative construction methods, including the increased application of cement technology in road construction, has, according to Ohanaeze, created a new conversation around durability, sustainability, and value-for-money in Nigeria’s road infrastructure sector.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo acknowledges Senator Umahi’s visible field-based approach to supervision of road projects, describing his constant engagement with contractors, engineers, and project sites as a demonstration of commitment to ensuring that government infrastructure initiatives meet expected standards and timelines.
The organization further states that the Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda of the Federal Government has brought renewed attention to long-standing infrastructure challenges across various regions of Nigeria, including the Southeast. Ohanaeze maintains that ongoing federal road projects in the region represent an important step toward addressing decades of infrastructural neglect and rebuilding public confidence in equitable national development.
