Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on religious leaders, political stakeholders and citizens to promote peace, unity and responsible participation as the 2027 general elections approach.
Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, made the call on Wednesday in Asaba at the Mega Christian Political Prayer Rally (MCPPR’26), organised by Team RM and Sheriff Patriots alongside faith-based and community religious organisations.
With the theme “Operation Total Sweep,” the rally combined prayers with political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor stressed that the Church has an important role in promoting righteousness, integrity, peaceful coexistence and responsible citizenship, while urging political actors to reject hatred, division and violence.
He also highlighted his administration’s focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, agriculture, security and economic empowerment, calling on participants to take the message of peace and development to their communities.
Former Delta State Governor and Delta North senatorial candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, urged Christians to continue seeking divine guidance and expressed support for APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Goodwill messages came from the Governor’s Senior Political Adviser, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon; Senator Emmanuel Agwaravwodo; and APC Delta South Chairman, Prince Emma Amgbaduba, who urged supporters to translate their political mobilisation into votes.
The State Mobilisation Director/State Coordinator for Religious Matters, Rev. Okonye Ifechukwude, said Team RM Sheriff Patriots was formed to unite faith-based and community religious groups for political participation in support of the APC.
The rally also featured a sermon by Rev. Priestly Dafe, representing Bishop Kingsley Enakirerhi, who emphasised the supremacy of God and the need for leaders to seek divine wisdom in exercising public responsibility.
Participants subsequently prayed against electoral violence and for peaceful elections in 2027, while calling for continuity in development policies across the federal, state and local government levels.
