The contest for the Abia North Senatorial seat took another turn as Rt. Hon. Uko Ndukwe Nkole appeared live on a current affairs programme in Aba alongside his opponent, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, for a public discussion on the issues confronting the senatorial district and what should be done differently.
For Nkole, the conversation during a political Radio discussion programme “Politics 943” at Enyimba FM 94.3 Aba, was less about political rhetoric and more about capacity, experience and the unfinished business of development in Abia North.
Drawing from his years in public service and experience as an elected representative, the former member of the House of Representatives argued that the senatorial district needs a representative capable of identifying opportunities, attracting projects and following them through to completion.
He particularly pointed to the infrastructure gap across Abia North, maintaining that several projects initiated during his tenure require renewed attention while new ones must be conceived to respond to the economic realities of the zone.
According to him, Abia North has the human and entrepreneurial capacity to become a stronger economic hub, pointing to the remarkable contributions of people from the zone to the growth of Aba as evidence of what its people can achieve when given the right environment and representation.
Nkole also used the opportunity to make a case for generational renewal in political representation. He urged older politicians seeking elective positions to consider making room for younger leaders, while concentrating their experience and influence on the larger struggle for the presidency.
He cited the emergence of Peter Obi as the NDC Presidential Flag Bearer ahead of the 2027 election, stressing the need for greater Igbo participation at the highest level of national leadership and calling on the younger generation to support that broader political objective.
For Nkole, therefore, the 2027 Abia North contest is not simply another election. It is a choice between maintaining the status quo and returning experience to the table to complete unfinished work, pursue fresh opportunities and reposition the senatorial district for stronger economic development.
