As Bende approaches the 2027 election, the critical question is not simply who should represent the constituency, but what kind of representation does Bende need?
The answer is straightforward: representation that is accessible, development-driven and capable of attracting opportunities from the federal government.
That is the proposition behind the candidacy of Hon. Pascal Karibe Ojigwe, the NDC candidate for Bende Federal Constituency.
Bende needs a representative who will make youth empowerment more than an election slogan. The emphasis should be on skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and opportunities in ICT, agriculture and vocational trades, while deliberately pursuing relevant federal programmes and interventions for young people.
The same focus should extend to women, farmers and rural communities through support for agricultural development, market opportunities, access roads, healthcare, water and other basic infrastructure. Bende must not merely hear about the federal government; the constituency must feel its presence.
Karibe’s background in sports and public service also offers an avenue for developing young talent. As a former international player and sports commissioner, he understands the importance of structured opportunities, facilities and exposure for talented youths who deserve platforms beyond Bende.
But representation is not only about projects. It is also about access.
A functional constituency office, regular engagement with constituents and periodic reports on projects and interventions should be part of modern representation. The people deserve to know what their representative is pursuing, what has been achieved and what remains to be done.
Ultimately, quality representation comes down to three things: Access. Attraction. Accountability.
The representative must be accessible to the people, capable of attracting federal opportunities and prepared to give account.
That is the standard Bende should apply to every candidate in 2027.
Hon. Pascal Karibe Ojigwe is offering himself under the NDC on that basis. The election should therefore not be reduced to slogans or sentiment. It should be about capacity, experience and delivery.
Bende deserves a representative who will not only speak for the constituency in Abuja, but work to bring meaningful opportunities and development back home.
Bende needs representation that delivers—not just representation that speaks.
