NDIGBO For Tinubu Press Release – 20th April 2026
The NDIGBO FOR TINUBU 2027 FORUM (NDI-ABAT), a coalition of Igbo groups, has issued a stern caution to former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, regarding his unsubstantiated and increasingly controversial claims about winning the 2023 presidential election. Mr. Obi’s persistent assertion that he was the rightful victor, despite official results to the contrary, is not only misleading but could also incite unnecessary division. Such claims risk promoting conspiracy narratives that may trigger post-election tensions, especially in the lead-up to the 2027 elections if repeated.
NDI-ABAT stresses that these claims have the potential to exacerbate already fragile political tensions and could spark unrest in a divided nation. It is considered unpresidential for Mr. Obi to continue promoting disputed claims about the 2023 election, given the potential influence of his words on his supporters, widely known as the “Obidient Movement.” Their strong emotional engagement makes it especially important for him to exercise caution, refrain from unverified assertions, and communicate responsibly in order to safeguard national peace and stability.
NDI-ABAT further highlights concerns about Mr. Obi’s tenure as Governor of Anambra State, describing aspects of his leadership as lacking in democratic processes. It notes that Local Government Area (LGA) elections were not conducted across the 21 LGAs during his administration. Additionally, the forum claims there is limited publicly verifiable record of major healthcare infrastructure projects commissioned during his tenure. These issues, it argues, raise questions about his governance record.
In light of these concerns, NDI-ABAT expresses the view that Mr. Obi’s recent rhetoric suggests he may not be adequately positioned for the 2027 presidential race. The group argues that Nigeria requires leadership that fosters unity, respects democratic institutions, and communicates with responsibility and factual accuracy.
NDI-ABAT therefore issues a firm caution to Mr. Peter Obi to refrain from making claims about the 2023 election that could heighten tensions. It warns that any actions perceived as inciting unrest may attract legal consequences, emphasizing the need to respect democratic processes and avoid inflammatory statements capable of provoking public disorder.
The forum further urges Mr. Obi to prioritize national stability above personal political ambitions. As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, it calls on all political actors to demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and commitment to democratic values.
As the nation looks ahead to 2027, NDI-ABAT reiterates its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and states its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and national development, while discouraging actions that could undermine these principles.
