On the Need for a Just, Peaceful, and Objective Resolution to the Nnamdi Kanu Case

MEDIA STATEMENT BY AMB ALIYU BIN ABBAS THE YOUTH PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA.

Fellow Nigerians,

Our nation stands once again at a delicate intersection of justice, unity, and peace. The question of whether to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has become one of the most sensitive national issues in recent years one that has touched deep emotions and stirred diverse opinions across the country.

As the Youth President of Nigeria, I believe it is time we approach this matter with clarity of mind, fairness of heart, and firmness of purpose.

This is not merely about one man; it is about how a nation chooses to treat its own citizens, even in disagreement. It is about whether we will allow bias, propaganda, or orchestrated narratives to divide us further or whether we will rise above them in the interest of justice and peace.

Let us be clear:
No individual or group should hold the nation hostage through violence or intimidation. But likewise, no government should hold justice hostage through sentiment or selective application of the law. The true strength of any republic is found not in its ability to punish, but in its capacity to reconcile, to reform, and to renew trust among its people.

At this critical stage of our national life marked by economic strain, insecurity, and social division Nigeria needs healing, not hostility.
The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu has deepened frustration in the South-East and added to the sense of alienation felt by many young Nigerians. His release, if handled responsibly, could serve as a symbol of reconciliation—a chance for dialogue, truth-telling, and peacebuilding.

However, such a decision must not be driven by political pressure or regional sentiments. It must be guided by law, wisdom, and national security considerations.

If the courts have spoken, let their verdicts be respected. If there are concerns about peace and order, let structured dialogue be pursued with responsible regional and community leaders.

We must seek a middle path—one that upholds the rule of law, promotes unity, and restores faith in the Nigerian project. Let no one exploit this issue for electoral gain or ethnic manipulation. The destiny of Nigeria is greater than any single political interest.

Our youth demand a country where justice is not selective, where peace is built on truth, and where unity is not enforced by fear but inspired by fairness.

Let us, therefore, commit to handling this matter in the spirit of justice, compassion, and collective responsibility.
History will judge us not by how loudly we argued, but by how wisely we acted.

May wisdom guide our leaders.
May peace return to our regions.
And may justice reign across our land.

Amb. Aliyu Bin Abbas
Youth President of Nigeria
For Peace, Unity, and Reform
