Ambassador Dr Osita Offor “De Ultimate Commander” (Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia and Nneato Ancient Kingdoms), has mourned Professor Gregory Ikechukwu (Iyke) Ibe, OFR, Enyi Abia, whose investments in education, technical skills and philanthropy touched lives across Abia State and beyond.
In his condolence message to the Ibe family, Offor described the late university founder as an entrepreneur who put his resources into developing human potential, particularly through access to education and opportunities for young Nigerians.
Through Gregory University, Uturu, Ibe established a centre for higher education that has trained students in different professional fields. His work also extended to technical and vocational education, scientific innovation and assistance to indigent students.
Offor said Ibe’s decision to establish and sustain an institution of higher learning in Uturu demonstrated a commitment to expanding educational opportunities beyond Nigeria’s major urban centres.
“Professor Ibe did more than establish a university. He created an avenue through which young people could acquire knowledge, develop professional skills and pursue ambitions that might otherwise have remained out of reach. That contribution deserves recognition beyond the lifetime of its founder,” he said.
He noted that Ibe’s philanthropic interventions and support for disadvantaged students added another dimension to his public service, giving young people opportunities to continue their education despite financial difficulties.
Offor urged Abia’s leaders and business community to protect the institutions Ibe established and sustain investments in education, vocational training and innovation. He said the late professor’s work presented a practical example of how private enterprise could contribute to the development of society.
Addressing the bereaved family, Offor said: “I extend my sincere condolences to the Ibe family. Beyond his public achievements, you have lost a husband, father, grandfather and loved one whose place in your lives cannot be filled by awards or public tributes. May God give you the strength to bear this loss and comfort you in your grief.”
He also expressed sympathy with the people of Uturu, Isuikwuato and Abia State, urging them to preserve the educational and philanthropic initiatives associated with Ibe’s name.
Offor extended his condolences on behalf of his family, associates and the OTTIMANIA Legacy Movement, praying for the peaceful repose of the late professor’s soul.
May Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe rest in peace.
