An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Chidiebere J. Okoh, has expressed strong confidence in the political strength and leadership capacity of Dr. Eric Opah, declaring that the governorship hopeful possesses what it takes to decisively defeat Governor Alex Chioma Otti in the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.
Okoh, who spoke with confidence about the future of the APC in Abia State, asserted that the party has produced a governorship aspirant whom he described as competent, visionary, and strategically equipped to place the state on what he termed a “trajectory of speedy development, economic growth, and people-oriented governance.”
In a bold political statement, the APC stalwart boasted that Dr. Opah would overwhelmingly defeat Governor Otti “before 12pm on election day,” emphasizing that the growing dissatisfaction among segments of the populace and increasing grassroots political awareness would significantly alter the political dynamics ahead of 2027.
According to him, Dr. Eric Opah possesses the experience, administrative capacity, and developmental ideas required to reposition Abia State and provide an alternative vision for governance under the APC platform.
Okoh’s remarks came amid reactions trailing the recent naming of the Umuahia Bus Terminal after Mrs. Nnenna Otti, who served as the returning officer during the 2023 governorship election that declared Governor Otti winner.
Reacting to the development, Chief Okoh argued that symbolic recognitions or political gestures would not determine electoral outcomes, insisting that the electorate would ultimately decide based on governance performance and perceived competence.
He maintained that regardless of political symbolism, Governor Otti would still face stiff opposition in 2027, stressing that no amount of political endorsement or honorary recognition would stop what he predicted would be a strong electoral showing by the APC candidate.
“Even if the whole state is named after her, elections are won by the people,” Okoh reportedly argued, insisting that political momentum, grassroots mobilization, and strategic leadership would shape the outcome of the next governorship race.
The APC chieftain further called on members of the party to intensify grassroots mobilization, unite around a common objective, and begin early political engagement aimed at strengthening the party’s chances ahead of 2027.
He urged party faithful across communities and wards in Abia State to become more proactive in political participation, voter sensitization, and community outreach, emphasizing that electoral success would require discipline, structure, and commitment at the grassroots level.
Okoh also described the current administration as a “propaganda government,” while urging APC supporters to rally behind Dr. Eric Opah in what he portrayed as a mission to provide a new direction for governance in Abia State.
As political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum, observers believe statements such as these may further intensify debates around governance, performance, and the political future of Abia State.
