Abia AG Commited to Fiscal Discipline and Transparency, not perturbed by baseless allegations.

The attention of concerned stakeholders has been drawn to a publication credited to a group operating under the name United Front for a New Abia (UFNA), calling for the dismissal of the Accountant General of Abia State, Mrs. Njum Uma-Onyemanam. The claims contained in that statement are not only misleading but clearly designed to misinform the public and undermine confidence in the present administration.

It is important to state unequivocally that the allegations leveled against the Accountant General are entirely baseless, lacking in substance, and reflect nothing more than a calculated campaign of calumny orchestrated by elements opposed to the ongoing reforms in Abia State.

Mrs. Uma-Onyemanam has continued to demonstrate exceptional professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to financial discipline. Her office plays a critical role in safeguarding the state’s finances, ensuring that all disbursements strictly comply with established due process and globally accepted public financial management standards. This responsibility naturally requires diligence, scrutiny, and adherence to laid-down procedures — not arbitrariness as falsely alleged.

Contrary to the insinuations made by UFNA, there is no deliberate delay or obstruction of approvals from the Governor. Every financial release undergoes necessary verification and documentation to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for public funds. This is in line with the reform-driven agenda of Governor Alex Otti, which prioritizes prudence, due process, and the elimination of financial leakages.

It is therefore misleading to interpret procedural compliance as inefficiency or hostility. What is being witnessed is a system that is working — one that places accountability above convenience and long-term fiscal stability above short-term appeasement.

Furthermore, the attempt to portray the Accountant General as being at odds with civil servants, the media, or the public is unfounded. On the contrary, her office has consistently engaged stakeholders within the framework of her mandate, ensuring that financial processes are transparent, structured, and in the best interest of the state.

The narrative being pushed by UFNA should be seen for what it is: a deliberate effort to distract from the progress being made by the current administration and to sow seeds of discord within government structures. Such tactics are not unexpected from opposition elements uncomfortable with the growing reputation of Abia State as a model of fiscal responsibility and governance reform.

The Accountant General remains fully aligned with and supportive of Governor Otti’s vision for a transparent, accountable, and efficient government. Her commitment to upholding financial best practices is not only commendable but essential to sustaining the gains already being recorded.

The public is therefore urged to disregard these unfounded allegations and continue to support the administration’s efforts to rebuild trust, strengthen institutions, and deliver good governance to the people of Abia State.
