25th March 2026
The apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, extends heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the timely completion of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway project, executed using advanced cement technology. This expressway, once notorious for fatal accidents, chronic traffic congestion, and substantial economic losses, has undergone a remarkable transformation under President Tinubu’s administration.
For over 24 years, the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway was a harrowing nightmare and a deadly route for Ndigbo. Its dilapidated state caused immense suffering, hampered economic activity, and endangered lives daily. Despite repeated pleas from the Igbo people, previous administrations—led by Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and the late Muhammadu Buhari—failed to fulfill their electoral promises to repair and reconstruct this crucial artery. These unfulfilled pledges highlighted a long-standing pattern of neglect toward the welfare of Ndigbo.
The situation has now changed dramatically. The announcement of the reopening of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by the Federal Ministry of Works, set for 31st March 2026, has been met with immense joy and relief by Ndigbo. President Tinubu is reshaping the narrative of Igbo development, ushering in an infrastructural revolution in the Southeast. The dual carriageway, stretching 107 kilometers per side, is a landmark legacy project with far-reaching political, social, and economic implications—a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to the growth and development of the region.
This infrastructure milestone is also expected to influence the political landscape, potentially shaping voting patterns in favor of President Tinubu in the 2027 elections, as Ndigbo recognize the tangible benefits of his leadership. Nigerians, particularly the Igbo people, are applauding President Tinubu and Minister of Works, Senator Dave Nweze Umahi, for this historic achievement.
While expressing gratitude, Ohanaeze Ndigbo respectfully urges President Tinubu to allocate additional funds for the expedited completion of all ongoing federal road projects in the Southeast. Priority projects include the Markudi–Nsukka–Nightmile–Enugu Expressway and the Calabar–Abakiliki–Benue–Abuja Super Highway. The Igbo people see these developments as vital for economic growth, social integration, and overall regional prosperity. Continued support from the Federal Government under President Tinubu’s leadership is far more impactful than any overtures from opposition coalitions.
