NYA Condemns FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s Disrespectful Conduct Towards Military Officer
The National Youth Alliance (NYA), under the leadership of its Youth President, Amb. Aliyu Bin Abbas, strongly condemns the recent actions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his unacceptable and disrespectful verbal assault on a military officer who was simply carrying out his lawful duty.
Such behavior is unbecoming of a public official of his standing and constitutes a gross display of arrogance, indiscipline, and disregard for constituted authority. As a serving minister and a representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Wike is expected to demonstrate decorum, humility, and exemplary conduct befitting his office.
The military institution remains one of the most respected pillars of our national security and sovereignty, and any act that undermines their dignity or authority threatens the moral fabric of discipline upon which our nation stands.
Public office is a sacred trust — one that demands responsibility, restraint, and respect for the men and women who risk their lives daily in defense of our nation.
The NYA therefore:
- Condemns in strong terms the verbal assault on the said officer and the disregard it portrays towards the Nigerian Armed Forces.
- Calls on the Minister, Nyesom Wike, to tender an unreserved public apology to the Nigerian military and the officer involved.
- Urges the Presidency and relevant authorities to take necessary disciplinary action in accordance with the ethics of public service to reaffirm that no one is above the law.
- Appeals to all public officials to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects respect for law enforcement agencies, the rule of law, and the Nigerian people.
The NYA stands firmly with the Nigerian military and with every uniformed officer who upholds discipline, duty, and national integrity.
We cannot build a just and orderly society if those in leadership positions act with impunity and disrespect toward the very institutions that safeguard our democracy.
The National Youth Alliance remains committed to promoting accountable leadership, civic discipline, and a generational shift toward a new Nigeria founded on respect, justice, and responsible governance.
