Subject: An Urgent Plea for the Immediate Release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

Your Excellency,

I hope this message finds you well. I am Chief Dr. Emeka Kalu, and I respectfully wish to bring to your attention the ongoing and indefinite detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

It is widely known that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has never been convicted of any violent crime or an act that involved taking human life. While his statements may sometimes be controversial, they have consistently called for justice, equality, and the rights of his people to self-determination, as supported by the United Nations Charter.

It is both disheartening and troubling that many individuals who have engaged in violent acts against the Nigerian state — including those responsible for killing innocent citizens, soldiers, and police officers — have been granted amnesty and pardons in the name of reconciliation. Yet, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has not harmed anyone, remains imprisoned under inhumane and unlawful conditions.

This selective application of justice fosters resentment and undermines the unity and peace that the Government seeks to uphold. True reconciliation cannot be accomplished while injustice persists. The release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would not only be a significant gesture toward statesmanship and national healing but also demonstrate that this administration values the rule of law and the principle of equality for all.

Given the ongoing silence and inaction on this matter, I wish to inform you that I am mobilizing Nigerians, particularly the Igbo community in the diaspora, to organize peaceful demonstrations in Washington D.C., the United Kingdom, and other international locations. Our aim is to draw global attention to this injustice and demand the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Nigeria cannot progress while the cries of injustice resonate across its land. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release would signify a new beginning — one built on fairness, dialogue, and respect for human rights.

I earnestly appeal to your sense of justice, compassion, and patriotism to do what is right in the eyes of both God and history. Let this be a moment remembered as Nigeria’s choice for peace over vengeance, unity over division, and justice over political expediency.

Respectfully yours,
Chief (Dr.) Emeka Kalu Political Analyst, Human Rights Advocate, and Global Peace Ambassador
